In their presentation, Paolo and Vincent talk about the importance of “Design for Recycling” and show how packaging can become recyclable. They also discuss how challenges can be overcome to enable plastics to stay in the business cycle for as long as possible. They conclude that materials which are suitable for existing recycling streams should be used for packaging. In addition, the proportion of the packaging that is covered with decorative elements should be reduced. Moreover, moving forward, packaging should be developed that is either made from one single material (mono-material) or combines materials that can easily be separated during the recycling process. Following on from this, Jens demonstrates how the components of K3® products will be even easier to separate in the future and how this can enable the recyclability of combinations of cardboard and plastic to be further improved.
